Companies, large and small, are starting to make the switch, in large numbers, from traditional utilities to various third-party suppliers after more than 10 years of energy deregulation. Why the sudden shift? There was a story here, and this is why we added "Shopping for Power" to our existing energy-related articles in the March issue, in order to create "The Power Pack" series. The other two articles are: "Generating Savings," which details how the increase in photovoltaic (solar) panels throughout New Jersey is being driven by SRECs (credits issued to those using solar panels by the State Board of Public Utilities that are in turn purchased by energy suppliers); and "Building Smart," the story which looks at how property owners are turning to better construction materials, appliances and energy systems to enhance the value and efficiency of their sites.
