Governor Christie
Signs NJ Internet Gambling Bill
Governor Chris
Christie recently signed a bill
legalizing internet gambling. The
bill will not take effect until the
state Division of Gaming Enforcement
sets a start date. Atlantic City
casino executives have said it could
take up to a year to get the system
up and running.
“I am pleased to
say that I signed New Jersey’s
Internet Gaming Bill, opening the
way for new opportunity to bolster
our efforts to continue the revival
of Atlantic City, its casinos and
entertainment offerings. This was a
critical decision, and one that I
did not make lightly. But with the
proper regulatory framework and
safeguards that I insisted on
including in the bill, I am
confident that we are offering a
responsible yet exciting option that
will make Atlantic City more
competitive while also bringing
financial benefits to New Jersey as
a whole. I want to thank the
sponsors for working quickly to
include my recommendations to
improve the bill.”
New Jersey is the third state in the
US to allow online gambling in
addition to Delaware and Nevada. The
bill would allow the online playing,
for money, of any game currently
offered by Atlantic City's 12
casinos. The casinos would set
gamblers up with online accounts and
could set limits on their play.
